Holy Week & Easter 2019

Saturday 13 April 9pm Compline in the Old Church

Sunday 14 April Palm Sunday 8am Said Mass (Old Church). 9.30am Blessing of Palms, Procession & Sung Mass. The service starts in the Infant playground of Edward Betham School, followed by a procession to the New Church where there is a dramatised reading of the Passion Gospel.

Station No 3. Love  (Corner of the Churchyard)

3pm Outdoor stations of the Cross – follow in the footsteps of Christ’s last day through the streets of Greenford with readings and prayers (meet in the Old Church)

9pm Compline (Old Church)

Monday – Wednesday 15-17 April. A Said Mass at 9.15am in the Old Church is followed at 10am by  workshops on Easter Crafts (Monday); Easter Garden (Tuesday); and Easter Music (Wednesday).  Each evening Compline is said at 9pm in the Old Church

Thursday 18 April Maundy Thursday 7pm Mass of the Last Supper with washing of feet. The liturgy for Maundy Thursday follows the events of the Last supper where Jesus washed his disciples feet and shared his final meal with them. At the end of the service a Vigil is held in the Old Church until midnight.

Friday 19 April Good Friday. 10am Ecumenical Walk of Witness from Our Lady of the Visitation to Holy Cross church for a final act of worship 3pm The Good Friday Liturgy during which the Passion Gospel is sung and the cross venerated. 9pm Tenebrae in the Old Church. Tenebrae is the Latin word for Shadows and in this powerful service the story of Christ’s passion is told in an increasingly dark church until the last candle is extinguished to mark Jesus’s death.

Saturday 20 April Holy Saturday. 8pm the Easter Vigil, the lighting of the New Fire and the First Mass of Easter. 

Sunday 21 April Easter Sunday. 9.30am Sung Mass
